The National Curriculum places a high emphasis on music 'Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians'. We love this sentiment at Pensford Primary School, and offer a wide range of music lessons that involve listening, playing and composing music.
In Key Stage 1 classes children listen carefully and respond physically to a wide range of different kinds of music. They play musical instruments and sing a variety of songs from memory, adding accompaniments and creating short compositions, with increasing confidence, imagination and control.
In the Key Stage 2 classes children sing songs and play instruments with increasing confidence, skill, expression and awareness of their own contribution to a group or class performance. They improvise and develop their own musical compositions, in response to a variety of different stimuli, with increasing personal involvement, independence and creativity. We encourage children to explore their thoughts and feelings through responding physically, intellectually and emotionally to a variety of different kinds of music from different times and cultures.
In addition to learning within class music lessons, all our children from Foundation Stage to Year 6 have the opportunity to have extra music tuition by specialist music teachers. Children and parents will be notified of availability every September. The cost of the lessons and any further information can be obtained from the school office.
