A message from Mr Barton

I simply want to say 'Happy Christmas' and thank-you to all our parents and children for another successful term.  The school is so well-supported by the local community and this makes an enormous difference to us.  Three simple illustrations of this spring to mind from this week alone:

On Tuesday we held a 'volunteers coffee morning' at which I was able to say thanks to most of our team of volunteers over some mince pies and hot drinks.  I was well supported by the School Council who helped to serve the food and drink and although not all of our 11 volunteers could make it I was glad that the majority did so that I could thank them personally for the hard work that they give to our school.

Secondly the PTA stepped in to help at the last minute when the Christmas crackers didn't arrive for our school Christmas meal.  Huge thanks are due to Lisa Cains for purchasing some for the children, and to the PTA for meeting the cost.

The other lovely example of the community supporting our school was the great support that we received for the Christmas Fair.  The children and staff had worked hard to prepare games and items to sell, and parents had been generous with their donations for prizes and the raffle.  Altogether we raised £433 in the 1-hour long fair.  This is a lovely Christmas present for the school and will really help us in buying resources to support the children's learning.  Thank-you so much to all who contributed.

So enjoy the Christmas holiday and we look forward to seeing all our families again on Wednesday, 3rd January for the start of Term 3.

Mr Barton

Official release of our impressive progress figures

If you have a moment to visit www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/ and put in our school postcode, BS39 4AA, you can see just how well our school did last year compared to other local schools when it comes to our Key Stage 2 results.  Just add local schools to the comparison list and you will find Pensford at the top (or very near it) when overall performance is compared.

Meanwhile, if you know of anyone who is looking for a good school place for September, please do remind them that the deadline for applications to BANES schools is January 15th.  The schools admissions page can be found here: http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/services/schools-colleges-and-learning/admissions-schools .

Farewell to 'Miss G'

Dragonfly parents will be aware that Hilary Goodlett ('Miss G to the children') has been the teaching assistant in that class on Thursdays since September.  This was while Miss Sasha Perrett was completing teaching assistant training.  We are pleased to say that Miss Perrett has successfully completed her course and will now be working with us on Thursdays from the start of next term.  We are extremely grateful to Miss Goodlett for stepping in and we are looking forward to seeing her again as she has kindly said she could work as a volunteer for us in the future, just has she has done in the past.  Thank-you Miss G, and goodbye for now!

Eco-Team

Our team are battling it out with Freshford Primary School at the top of the local schools' league table.  Each time we do an activity to promote efficient use of energy we gain points.  You can help our team to be in the running to win £300 for the school by spending less than 5 mins answering some simple questions about energy use in your home.  We've made it easy for you - all you have to do is click here or on the link below...

Every point counts, and we're doing really well, as you can see from this snapshot of the top of the league table:

Attendance

As you may well be aware, attendance is a focus this year as part of our drive to achieve 'outstanding' personal development, behaviour and welfare.  We are pleased to report that our average attendance rate remains above our target of 96.5% .  48 of our children were able to come to school every single day this term and it was a pleasure to give them certificates in assembly today in recognition of this 100% attendance rate.

We would like to thank all parents who work hard to ensure that coming to school is a top priority for the children.  Hours in school actually only account for about 9% of a child's life from birth to 11, but they really make a difference to the child's choices later in life!

Shop Well For Less

We had this message sent to the school this week.  If you and your family are interested, please contact the BBC using the contact details given at the bottom:"

Hi there,

I am a producer from the hit BBC One series Shop Well For Less?  We are currently casting for the third series and are on the lookout for fun and lively families and households to take part. This prime time series shows viewers how to spend without the splurge, helping to rein in spending but retain the lifestyle we all want.

Whether we’re hooked by the exquisite whiff of a new pair of shoes, the shiny lure of the latest HD television, or the irresistible promises of beauty lotions and potions, one thing’s for sure - as a nation we simply love to buy.  With a few simple tricks, we can all learn to buy better and spend less. When should you save your money? And, just as crucially, when should you invest in spending a little bit more? This fun, surprising and perfectly practical series teaches us all the tricks of the trade we need to SHOP WELL… FOR LESS.

Smart spending is an issue which we believe affects most of us, especially with Christmas coming up! We’d be really grateful if you could help us spread the word about the new series.  I’ve attached a flyer and wondered if you would be kind enough to share it with your staff members as well as the parents of your pupils to see if any of them would be interested in applying for the new series.

If you think you know any families/households that may be interested in appearing on the programme, please do pass on our details.

If  you have any questions, or would like me to send over any further information please pop me an email or give me a call on 0117 970 7670

We look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards,

Steph,
