A message from Mr Barton

It has been lovely to be busy this term showing prospective parents around the school.  I would like to thank the parents and community who have been helping to spread the word about the school's great successes in recent times and I can certainly say that there has been a very significant increase in the interest being taken in the school this autumn.

My message this week is very simple.  In order to maintain a thriving school here in Pensford over the coming years, it is vital that we continue to spread that message.  There is no doubt that over the last seven years, funding available to schools to spend on the children has declined significantly in real terms.  Unfortunately, I have seen figures that predict the National Funding Formula that you may have heard about will result in either zero or little increase in funding for Pensford, and certainly not an increase above the rate of inflation.

However, the one great advantage we have at Pensford at the moment is that we are not full.  This means that we can access more funding over the coming years if we can grow our pupil numbers.  This is something that our community can help directly with, thanks to the hard work of one of our governors, Adele Balzan.  She has created a professional leaflet, illustrated above, which we need to deliver to key locations over the next two weeks.  We want to make sure that all local pre-schools, libraries and doctors' surgeries have the leaflet, and for that we would like to appeal for your help.

So if you can help deliver the leaflet, even if it's just to one location, please contact either our parent governor Donna Uren or our ex-parent governor Phil Wallhead.  Their details are below:

Children in Need and Anti-Bullying - Our Contributions

Thank-you to all the parents and children who dressed up differently today in support of Anti-Bullying Week and the Children in Need campaign.  There were lots of good outfits, but we particularly liked John's attempt at being a mini version of his teacher, Mr Miller!

We raised £78.07 so thank-you very much to all who contributed.

For the school, we have also raised £75 from the collection of clothes.  Again, thank-you very much to all families who had a good clear out at home and donated!

For your information, you will be receiving a Parentpay activation letter next week which will allow you to set up a Parentpay account or "add a child" to an existing Parentpay account.  Can I ask that you activate your account by Friday 1 December when we will transfer any balances from our old system onto the new system.

Parentpay will allow parents to electronically pay for all school meals, trips, breakfast club etc by credit or debit card, so as of Friday 1 December, the School Office will no longer be accepting cash or cheques for payments.

If you are a parent or carer who does not own a credit or debit card, please contact Sarah Millican the School Business Manager asap.

Similarly if you are experiencing problems setting up your account, please feel free to see Sarah and she will help you set up the account.

Christmas Trees

Please be aware that you can support our school when you buy your Christmas Tree this year.   Here's a message from Steve Hicks at Abbey Trees to explain how:

For quite a few years now I've been supplying non drop Nordman Fir Xmas trees throughout the Chew Valley and donating £5 for every tree sold to friends of playgroups. Last year with the help of Lisa Cains I did a few for Pensford but we started late so not everyone knew about it. So the trees cost £45 for 6' plus and £55 for 7/8'. There are also some traditional Norway Spruce at £20 for a 6/7 footer. I deliver direct to home addresses free of charge on Sunday 3 Dec and Sunday 10 Dec but if anyone wants one earlier I can arrange that. You can either order from me by phoning or texting 07778683645 or through Sally Field at school. Every Nord sold will generate £5 for the school! Payments are on delivery by cheque, cash or card.
