Message From Miss Bishop
John Butler's term as a governor has ended and he has reluctantly decided not to stand for re-election as he is very busy in his expanding voluntary post as District Governor in the Rotary Organisation. At his last meeting on Wednesday he told the GB how much he has enjoyed his term as a governor at Pensford School and how he appreciated and valued the support of all the governors and how proud he was of being part of such a warm and enthusiastic team. He said that he was honoured to serve the school and be involved in the growth and development over the years which he will follow with interest and great affection.
John Butler joined the Governing Board in the summer of 2009 as a Community Governor and was a member of the Premises Committee. In October 2011 John was elected Vice-Chair of the Governing Board and chair of the Finance Committee. The Finance and Premises committees combined and John was elected chair of this new committee and handled the extra responsibilities well. He was unanimously elected as chair in 2013 and at this time the duties of School Governors changed and more responsibility was placed on governors and John faced these challenges admirably, working with the Headteacher and Finance officer at school to fulfil the extra demands placed on the Board.
Jim Crouch who is chair of Paulton Junior School Governing Board and is the Primary School Governors' Representative on the Schools Forum, has kindly offered to take on the role of chair of Governors for Pensford School. The Head of Education Improvement, Margaret Simmons-Bird advised the school that we must not be without a chair of governors and the GB and school would like to thank Jim for stepping in. Jim will be proposed as a co-oopted governor and elected as chair at the next GB meet-ing on 13th July.
There are two vacancies for Parent Governor at Pensford School. An email will be sent out to all parents/guardians shortly giving full details of the responsibilities and duties of such a governor and we urge parents and guardians to consider taking on this role. If more than two parents/guardians put themselves forward, a ballot will be held.
