Newsletter 2nd December - Issue 12
We are proud to say...
A message from Mr Barton
The weather and the calendar have worked together nicely to give a Christmas flavour to school this week. We are very grateful to the Cains family for working so hard to decorate our hall Christmas tree with the new decorations so kindly and generously donated by Sheila. Meanwhile I rehearsals for the Christmas concert on 13th December at Publow have been progressing nicely and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there. A bit more detail about the performance, which will be a blend of singing, readings and a short nativity play performed by Dragonfly class can be found here. We are delighted that the Chairman of BANES Council, Councillor Alan Hale, will be attending. As well as being council leader, Mr Hale is an advocate for road safety. I am therefore pleased that he will not only come to enjoy our performance but see first hand our situation regarding road access!
On the topic of road saftey, I am also very pleased to say that I had a visit from Charles Wookey, director trustee of the charity UK4U Thanks!. This charity provides Christmas boxes for forces personnel working overseas at this time of year. Included in the boxes this year were flashing high-visibility armbands and Charles was able to donate some surplus stock to the school. These will be a welcome addition to our high-visibility jackets that we wear when walking to and from the playing fields or on other local trips. The children will be able to try them out when we walk to the church on Tuesday for a run through of our show. You can find out more about the charity here: www.uk4u.org .
Finally if, like me, you have planned to buy your Christmas tree this weekend, you may want to skip to the bottom of this newsletter first. The PTA have learned very recently of a scheme working in other local schools whereby you can have your tree delivered to your home, with a donation being given as a result to the PTA. Look out for the details of this below before you set off to buy your tree!
Have a very good weekend.
As well as the Christmas tree scheme, the PTA have been busy organising a film night for next Friday, 9th December. They have the following message for you:
Do you need a little more time "Home Alone"? If so...
send your children to Pensford School's Christmas Cinema Night!
Friday 9th December straight after school until 5:30pm.
Tickets £4 each INCLUDE drink, sweets &popcorn. Tickets available next week from the PTA.
FRESH flavours for your tastebuds!
Looking ahead to the post-Christmas period, we would like to give parents a date for your diary when you can focus on healthy eating in the new year. Our kitchen food suppliers, Fresh, will be here at the school on Tuesday, 10th January. They will hold a meeting after school for you to drop in on and find out more about how the ingredients for school meals are sourced. There will also be some food samples for you to try. If your child attends breakfast club, please be aware that we will also be using the new year momentum around healthy eating to re-vamp our menu and provide healthier choices for your children. Watch this space for more information.
