Newsletter 9th June Issue 33
We are proud to say...
A message from Mr Barton
Welcome back to Term 6. As I mentioned last term, these final weeks of the academic year are fairly packed with events and activities alongside the normal learning in class. I have already enjoyed accompanying Dragonfly class on their trip to Forest School on Tuesday. Despite the windy weather, the children did a great job of finding the right kind of sticks to build up a fire and learned about some different ways in which fires are lit as well as the importance of respecting fire and keeping safe. Unfortunately the weather got the better of the cricket arranged for Kingfisher on Thursday but parents will have had details of how this has been rearranged.
Meanwhile we are preparing for an eventful week next week which will culminate in our Fathers' Friday lunch, Sports Day and Ofsted Celebration all taking place consecutively on Friday afternoon. I would like to thank the parents who have been working so hard to organise the Celebration. They will need help on the day (see 'Volunteers Please' below). The party will take place following Sports Day, which is due to finish at 3pm. At that point, children will be handed over to parents who have attended the sports day. It will be important for teachers to be clear about who has been collected, so we will hand over the children one by one as happens normally back at school. Please wait for your child's teacher to hand your child over. Children of parents who are not able to attend Sports Day will remain with the teacher until the normal collection time but please could ALL children be collected from the Memorial Hall playing fields next Friday. I am told that the Memorial Hall Car Park can be used by parents attending both sports day and the Celebration afterwards, but cars will need to be moved promptly when the Celebration finishes as there is another event booked for the hall that evening.
Some information about the Ofsted Celebration that parents have so kindly organised for after Sports Day are given here:
The event will be a chance to picnic, relax and enjoy some music before a short musical performance from the children and a few words from me and Nigel Chambers at 5pm. I am very pleased to be able to let you know that Nigel is now officially our Chair of Governors. He has been doing a great deal of governor work as Vice Chair due to the fact that Jim Crouch is also extremely busy as Chair of another school as well as working full time. I am delighted that Nigel is now officially in post, as he works tirelessly for the school behind the scenes as well as at events. I have very much enjoyed working with him in this, my first year at Pensford and I look forward to taking the school on to further success alongside him and the rest of the staff and governors next year.
Finally this week I need to say a fond farewell to two of our children. Charlie and Francesca will be moving to Wales soon and their last day with us will be next week. We send them very best wishes as they settle in to their new school.
Because of all the events happening on a particularly busy Friday next week, our next newsletter will be published on Friday, 23rd June.
Enjoy the weekend,
We need some help from parents and families for three of our upcoming events:
- Can you help on Sports Day (Friday, 16th June 1:30-3:00) to give out stickers to those coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd? If so, please contact Mr Miller or the School Office.
- Can you help with the Ofsted Celebration Party (Friday, 16th June 3:00-6:00) setting up and selling refreshments? Here is a message from Adele Balzan with more details:
As you know we are holding a party immediately after sports day next Friday to celebrate our wonderful Ofsted result. We are looking for volunteers to man the drinks/sweets stand for periods of 15-20 minutes - ideally two people at a time. We will be putting up a rota on Monday on the notice board outside the entrance and would be really grateful of any help. Alternatively please email or text Adele email@example.com / 07855162287.
- Would you like to join us on our Whole School Trip to Bristol Zoo (all day on Monday, 10th July). Please contact the school office if you would like to come and help us supervise small groups of pupils as they tour the zoo. We have four spaces available for parent helpers.
Farewell to Jason
Our caretaker, Jason Clark, has stepped down from his position. We would like to say thank-you to him for all the work he has put in over the four years he has been with us. We wish Jason well as he moves on to focus on his other work.
Amendment to Term 6 Swimming Arrangements
Due to the upcoming Swimming Gala on 7 July 2017, it has been decided to give both Otter Class and Kingfisher Class the opportunity to practice for this event. Therefore, Otter Class will have had their practise sessions on Wednesdays 7th and 14th of June and Kingfisher Class will have their practise sessions on Wednesdays 21st and 28th June.
This has proved very popular with Dragonfly and Otter and will be for Kingfisher from next Thursday. The children can bring their scooters and helmets on that day for the lunchtime club.
Payments Made To School Office
Due to the amount of money which is paid into the School Office, can we request that all payments are contained within an envelope which clearly state "Name of Pupil", "Amount" and "Reason For Payment".
School Meals Charge As Of 1 September 2017
We have been informed by BANES that the price of a school meal will increase from £2.40 per meal to £2.60 as of 1 September 2017. Unfortunately, the school will be unable to subsidise this price increase so we have no option but to pass the increase onto the parents.
School Group Photos Monday 12 June
Class group photos are due to be held on the afternoon of Monday 12 June so can children be in their full uniform for the photos. These photos will be available to purchase at a later date.
Next week's film will be:
Please pay through the office as usual if you would like your child to come along. The film finishes at 5pm.
