We are proud to say...
A message from Mr Barton
Welcome back to all our families. It has been lovely to see everyone again, although it does seem strange at first when the Year 6 children aren't around. I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to Archie, Clara, Frankie, Freya, Oscar, Seren and Zack who have joined us as our new cohort of Reception children. It has been great to see them all settling in so well this week - well supported by all the staff and of course their Year 6 buddies.
I would also like to welcome Miss Sasha Perrett, our new Teaching Assistant in Dragonfly Class. Mrs Hilary Goodlet, who has been volunteering in the class for a long time, is also joining the staff until Christmas. As a reminder, these are the teaching arrangements for a typical week across the school:

We have hit the ground running already, sharing our development plan for the year, a summary of which you can find here. Mrs Rawlinson has launched our structured focus on Personal, Social and Health Education as we continue to prioritise children's happiness and wellbeing. We will focus on one of our values each term and this term it is 'Togetherness'.
I will explain a bit more about our school development plan this year as the weeks go by. For now, I'd just like to say that our core aim is to build on the "Good" judgement that we had last year and turn that into an "Outstanding" one next time around. The Year 6 children who left this year went with some truly excellent academic results. Success like this, together with our work this year on enhancing the very good personal development your children show, is setting us firmly on that path.
There is a lot to read below, as we begin another busy term. Enjoy the rest of the newsletter and have a very good weekend,
Breakfast Club - Free Taster Session
At Pensford Primary School we are very fortunate to offer both a Breakfast Club and a variety of After School Clubs to ensure that children have a range of experiences and also to offer parents wrap around care for their children. In an effort for all children to experience the services of the Breakfast Club, the school will be offering one FREE taster session to all children in the school during Term 1. During the session, your child(ren) will be able to access the school's IT to play games or access Mathletics, a number of fun games and activities or they can chill out in the library if they prefer. They will also receive a healthy breakfast as below:
Choice of cereals:
Porridge, Weetabix, Cornflakes, Rice Krispies, Shreddies, Ready Break
All served with semi-skimmed milk and a selection of fresh or dried fruit
Wholemeal toast (or a bagel or crumpet or muffin)
Served with lower-sugar jam, or marmite
Scrambled eggs will also be available to have with your toast
Semi-skimmed milk, water or 150ml fruit juice
If you would like your child to attend a free session during Term 1, can you please contact the School Office to book your child(ren) in. If you decide that you would like your child(ren) to regularly attend Breakfast Club, your child will receive their very own Kelloggs breakfast bowl to use whilst at Breakfast Club.
The current charges to attend Breakfast Club are £5.00 per day from 7.30 am and £4.00 per day from 8.00 am which is payable in arrears upon receipt of an invoice from the School Office.
As detailed in previous Newsletters, BANES Catering have had to increase the cost of a KS2 school meal to £2.60 as of 1 September 2017.
Can we ask that all payments for school meals continue to be paid in advance and you are most welcome to pay weekly, monthly or even termly. All cheques and cash should be put in an envelope clearly stating the child's name, the amount and what the payment is for and either given to your child or posted in the black mail box just outside of the School Office.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, you may be entitled to Free School Meals - a letter detailing this further has been sent home this week.
Year 5/6 Swimming Lessons
Kingfisher swimming lessons will start again at Hengrove Leisure Centre next Monday, 11 September. Further lessons will be on Mondays 18 September, 25 September and 2 October. Children will need to bring with them their full swimming kit, a towel and drink. Children will return to school in time for their normal lunch arrangements.
It will then be the turn of Otter Class who will have swimming lessons on 4 dates in Term 2 - details to follow.
Mr Barton will be starting this again on Thursday. Term 1 will be for Dragonfly Class. Please remember that children should leave their scooters in the 'Scooter Pod' at the back of the main building but they should not scoot in the playground before or after school. This is to avoid any accidents!
Helmets should also be brought. If children do not have a helmet yet they can still come to scooter club but will be restricted to a small area and slower speed! We do still have some school scooters available for children who do not have their own.
Updates from the classes
Our hardworking class teachers are committing the time to updating their class pages weekly this term. Please check in on your class's page over the weekend to see what they have been up to this week. The class pages are found under the 'Children' tab above. Kingfisher have updated theirs already to tell you about their trip to @Bristol. Full marks to Mr Miller for booking the trip so early in the school year as they pretty much had the whole place to themselves!
After School Clubs
We are pleased to say that all advertised After School Clubs have received enough participants so we can confirm that all Clubs will commence week commencing 11 September.
